‘One the first shots in this collection of work. From the north end of the beach you can really compress all the elements of this beautiful place into one shot. The towering cliffs, the holiday makers enjoying the shallows, the mist drifting off the waves, and the surfers passing through, eyes focussed on the break.’

the waves between | Large Format Edition
from £35.00

Signed Hardback Photobook + greetings cards: £35.00

Signed Hardback Photobook + greetings cards + Limited Edition Print: £75.00

A new, Large Format Edition of J.J. Midwinter’s sold out debut photography book, published by New Heroes and Pioneers.

Almost twice the size of the original book, the Large Format Edition of The Waves Between emphasises the expansive nature of my work, and features many new images, whilst still keeping the tranquil, contemplative atmosphere of the original book.

The works in The Waves Between are not necessarily about the act of surfing, but the time and space around it. These images seek to suggest rather than dictate, to conjure a sense of place and evoke an individual response.

These works aim to show us that surfing is a way to intensely be at one with nature and the book is a reflection of this philosophy. It is a communion with nature, often free from other aspects of human life. Waiting for a wave is a meditation.

‘a moment of serene preparation, readying the body before crossing the mirrored sand to join the pulsing ocean current’

Part of a series of limited edition pigment prints on 308gsm, archival quality, soft textured cotton Hahnemühle Photorag art paper.

This white cotton artist’s paper, with its characteristic, wonderfully soft feel, boasts a lightly defined felt structure, lending each artwork a three-dimensional appearance and impressive pictorial depth. Combined with the premium matt pigment coating, this paper produces outstanding prints that feature brilliant colours, deep blacks, striking contrasts and perfect reproduction of detail. This acid- and lignin-free classic meets the most exacting requirements for age resistance and is specially designed for archival fine art works
